K’eech’araakaii (We Are Sewing, Gwich’in Athabascan) Workshop

March 20, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - March 24, 2023 @ 8:00 pm

The Alaska Native Heritage Center is excited to invite you to a FREE 5-day workshop with Gwich’in Master Artist Rochelle Adams. Learn how to create a beautiful beaded scissor case and share traditional Athabascan values through sewing together.

During the workshop, Rochelle will share her scissor case pattern and some floral beaded designs that you can use to make your own unique scissor case. In the Interior, scissor cases are widely made to show respect and display sewing tools.

This event is completely free and all supplies will be provided. The workshop will take place from Monday through Friday, March 20-24th, from 6 -8 pm. Beginners are welcome, so don’t hesitate to join us even if you have no prior experience in sewing!

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn a new skill, connect with your community, and explore the rich culture and traditions of the Gwich’in Athabascan people. Families are welcome, so bring your loved ones along and let’s create something beautiful together !We have reserved spots for individuals under the age of 21!
