Remembering the Children: Boarding School Healing Event

July 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

We remember the spirits of the nearly 1,000 Indigenous children of Residential Schools of Canada. The truth has been told from the lips of those who survived residential schools. As we look at ourselves in the mirror with tattooed chins, hair as long as sweetgrass, and dance fans waving at the beat of the drum, we remember the truth that spills from the graves far from home.

Please join us at the Alaska Native Heritage Center to remember the Indigenous children of Canada. We want to uplift our relatives in Canada through song, dance, and prayer during this event. Survivor of boarding school, Jim Labelle Sr. will be our guest speaker who will acknowledge our Alaska Native boarding school survivors and their descendants. We will have cards available for guests to write their healing messages for Canada that will be read during the event. Men and women will having talking circles at two of our traditional sites around Lake Tiulana.

This event will take place outside for the safety of our community. We look forward to seeing you at the Alaska Native Heritage Center July 22nd from 6 to 8:30 PM.
