School Visits

Grades Pre-K – 12 | Winter Availability Only

With every ten paying students, a teacher or chaperone is free.  Any additional teachers or chaperones are $8 per person.  Maximum groups of 60 students at one time.

Anchorage School District (ASD) teachers submit requests online through SchoolDude TripDirect. Organizations outside of ASD can schedule directly by calling 907-330-8042or emailing at

Standard School Visit

$8 per student | 90 Minutes

A field trip to the Alaska Native Heritage Center includes an introduction to Alaska Native Cultures, village site tour, and choice of a 30-minute film.  Film options include:  native dancing and drumming, native stories or string stories or native games.

Extended School Visit

$10 per student | 120 Minutes

Includes all of the Standard School Visit options above with an additional choice of two: native dancing and drumming, native stories or string stories, native games, or native art project.

Please add additional time if your students plan to eat their lunches on site.

Shavila – Cultural School Assembly

$375 | 45 Minutes

Shavila is a school assembly event where Alaska Native Heritage Center staff present at your school.  A Shavila includes a native dance performance, a native games demonstration, and native storytelling. 

High School Program

2019 Availability | September – April 11, 2019

The Alaska Native Heritage Center High School Program is a winner of the President’s Coming Up Taller Award.  This program provides a positive cultural environment for Anchorage area students through cultural education, leadership, and community collaboration.

Students have the option to participate in the following classes: traditional and contemporary Alaskan native visual art, circumpolar native kick and strength games, Alaska native song and dance, Taekwondo self-defense, and all students have the opportunity to receive tutoring.

Students can also receive Anchorage School District elective credit and can apply for Alaska Pacific University College credit.
