ANHC Forms Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee

Message from the Alaska Native Heritage Center Board:
The Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC) is a safe place of healing and a place of action. Above all, we are a place for all Alaska Natives.

At ANHC, we are dedicated to operationalizing Alaska Native values of love, acceptance, respect, diversity, and community. Although our Alaska Native values have remained constant since time immemorial, the world around us continues to evolve. It is our responsibility to ensure our work is grounded in our values and reflects the needs of our community today, tomorrow, and for thousands of years to come.

For that reason, we are proud to announce the formation of an ANHC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. Comprised of ANHC Board and Staff, the DEI Committee will address pressing issues that affect Alaska Native youth and their futures—because our youth are our future.

The DEI committee will help us find ways to honor and celebrate what makes our cultures and communities so unique: our diversity. We are a rich and diverse community, and the makeup of our committee will reflect this diversity to ensure that we continue to serve as a space for ALL Alaska Natives, always.

As a statewide Alaska Native non-profit, we believe that modeling respect, love, and support for all people will help pave the way for others to do the same. Our actions, rooted in healing, respect, and education, will continue to be guided by our vision of “Thriving Alaska Native people and cultures are respected and valued.”

We look forward to sharing more about our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in the coming months.

ANHC is temporarily closed to the public from February 2024 – May 2024 for renovations to ANHC’s facility.
