Investing in Culture Through the Ch'k'iqadi Gallery
When you shop at the Ch'k'iqadi Gallery at the Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC), you are uplifting cultural education, Alaska Native artists, and the continuation of traditional art forms. At the heart of the Ch'k'iqadi Gallery's work is community and supporting ANHC's mission to preserve and strengthen the traditions, languages, and arts of Alaska Native Peoples through statewide collaboration, celebration, and education.
The Gallery offers a thoughtfully curated selection of artwork, jewelry, clothing, accessories, home goods, gifts, and books. It works with over 100 Indigenous artists from across Alaska through both wholesale and consignment. Every purchase directly supports ANHC's year-round, statewide cultural and educational programming, including initiatives like our summer internship for Alaska Native youth. It is meaningful place to shop for one-of-a-kind items while supporting Alaska Native artists.
Shopping at the Gallery is an experience like no other. "What makes the Ch’k’iqadi Gallery unique is its focus on contemporary Alaska Native artists within a cultural and community-centered space," says Ch'k'iqadi Gallery Manager, Christine Adams (Łingit). "It is the first Alaska Native-owned gallery in Anchorage and a place where we want to support our relatives and make them feel welcome and honored. It’s a place to connect with artists, learn about the meaning behind the work, and engage with Alaska Native cultures in an accessible way. We are intentional about building relationships with artists and expanding representation across regions, ensuring the gallery reflects both tradition and contemporary expression."
The Gallery also hosts Third Thursdays, a monthly evening celebration of contemporary Alaska Native artists. Each month features new work from artists representing a different Alaska Native cultural group. These special after-hours events invite the community to connect with artists, enjoy light refreshments, and receive a 10% storewide discount. Third Thursdays are free and open to the public.
The next time you visit ANHC, be sure to stop by the Ch'k'iqadi Gallery and experience the care, creativity, and community that make this shop truly unique.
