Tin Hoozoonh Apprenticeship

At the Alaska Native Heritage Center, growing the next generation of cultural leaders is part of our everyday work.

On February 28, our Tin Hoozoonh Apprenticeship Program came to a close. Meaning the "The Trail is Good" in Koyukon, Tin Hoozoonh was ANHC’s apprenticeship program designed for young adults to offer hands-on experience in cultural programming, education, and nonprofit operations. Apprentices worked alongside staff and Culture Bearers, learning how our programs run while building leadership skills grounded in Alaska Native values. From supporting events and workshops to engaging with guests and helping behind the scenes, they gained real-world experience rooted in community.

In the final weeks of the program, current and former apprentices came together to celebrate.

The current apprentices shared their knowledge of their respective departments through workshops and presentations to fellow apprentices. Previous apprentices joined in a friendly competition of Dene Games, led by Tin Hoozoonh Program Manager, Ben Baldwin (Dena'ina.)

These past few weeks of coming together beautifully represented the mission of ANHC and the purpose of this impactful cultural program. You could see the confidence that’s developed over the course of the program, with apprentices stepping into full time positions, encouraging one another, and speaking about their goals for the future.

Tin Hoozoonh may have wrapped up, but the impact continues. The commitment to community remains strong and is instilled in many upcoming leaders. To everyone who has impacted this program, Quyana (Thank you, Yugtun) for the work you’ve done and the leadership you’ll continue to show.

ANHC’s mission-driven work is dedicated to preserving and strengthening the traditions, languages, and arts of Alaska Native Peoples through statewide collaboration, celebration, and education. We are honored to continue creating space for learning, creativity, and connection.
