ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC) is hosting a community fundraiser on Friday, November 14, from 6–9 PM at the Alaska Native Heritage Center 8800 Heritage Center Drive, Anchorage, AK 99504. All proceeds will support ANHC’s Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund, which provides necessities such as winter gear (coats, boots, snowpants, etc.) and other essentials to families displaced by Typhoon Halong.

The evening will include a silent auction, raffle, spaghetti feed, cake walk, and Alaska Native dance performances. Guests are encouraged to contribute through on-site cash donations or by donating online. The event is co-hosted by Calista Corporation, Cook Inlet Housing Authority, Southcentral Foundation, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Native Peoples Action, and Alex McKay.

Visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center’s Facebook page to sign up as a volunteer or bid on the online silent auction. You can donate to ANHC’s Western Alaska Disaster Relief fund at www.alaskanative.net. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the fundraiser.

“Though it has been one month since Typhoon Halong devasted coastal communities in Western Alaska, the need for basic essentials remains constant,” said Kelsey Ciugun Wallace, President and CEO of the Alaska Native Heritage Center. “One of the first gaps we saw was that evacuated families needed new shoes. In two days, ANHC purchased more than $20,000 worth of footwear and each individual was able to choose shoes that fit their needs and personal style, providing them with one of the first decisions they were able to make for themselves since being evacuated.

This fundraiser is about continuing to find and address those gaps displaced families are facing. Every dollar we raise will go towards providing essential items to individuals impacted by Typhoon Halong. The Alaska Native Heritage Center is a place of connection and healing; our team is focused on ensuring that our relatives feel the strength and compassion of the community surrounding them.”

If you are an individual who has been impacted by Typhoon Halong and are interested in receiving a Native Foods Family Pack, please contact [email protected] or call (907) 330-8000 to learn more, get involved, or connect with ANHC’s team.
