Participants will learn how to work with porcupine quills on a loom with Koyukon master artist Emma Hildebrand. This workshop begins Feb. 17, 2026, and runs weekday evenings from 6PM to 8:30PM through Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, in the Mabel Pikes Games Classroom at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Emma Hildebrand was born in Northway, Alaska, where she was raised in a semi-subsistence lifestyle. Her mother, who was raised in a traditional subsistence way of life, taught her beading and skin sewing at the age of seven. Emma’s early work included medallion necklaces, barrettes, moccasins, and earrings, many of which were made and gifted to family members.
Emma is a master artist specializing in porcupine quilling and caribou tufting. In recognition of her cultural work, she was named as one of Alaska’s Living Cultural Treasures in 2011 and received a Rasmuson Foundation Individual Artist Award in 2020.
