DETAILS
Join us for a free two-day workshop on February 28 and March 1, 2026, to learn how to create Kilimitaun (Bola, Inupiaq) with Inupiaq master artist Leon Kinneeveauk. Sessions will be held each day from 9AM to 5PM in the Art Room at the Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC). This workshop is made possible with support from the National Park Service's Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Culture and Arts Development Grant Program.
ABOUT THE ARTIST

Leon Kinneaveauk (Inupiaq) serves as the Director of Alaska Art Alliance. Leon’s work comes from a place of healing and lived experiences. After spending many years incarcerated, he found recovery in the practice of traditional Inupiaq arts, particularly ivory carving and scrimshaw. Now he leads efforts to help those who need it most, specifically operating the Alaska Art Alliance carving shop in Downtown Anchorage in partnership with the Alaska Native Heritage Center to provide free carving space to Alaska Native men, some of whom struggle with homelessness, addiction, and re-entry from incarceration. Leon also teaches workshops and shares traditional practices with the broader community.
