Come learn how to make gut earrings out of walrus intestine* with Unangax̂ artist Chloe Bourdukofsky! This free, hands-on workshop takes place from October 24–27, meeting each day. 

*Due to Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) regulations, only individuals who meet the federal definition of an Alaska Native may handle seal or walrus gut. To make the workshop open to everyone, the artist will provide bear gut for those who do not meet the guidelines. 

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Qaadax̂ (Chloe Bourdukofsky-Price) was born and raised on Dena’ina Lands in Anchorage, Alaska, with family roots in Tanax̂-Amix̂ (St. Paul Island). She is Unangax̂ with ancestral ties to the Sugpiaq and Yup’ik regions. Her Unangax̂ name, Qaadax̂, meaning “Dolly Varden,” and was gifted by her great-grandmother, grandmother, and father, symbolizing resilience and the instinct to always return home. 
 
A beader since childhood, Qaadax̂ learned to assemble traditional Unangax̂ regalia in 2013, a practice that deepened her connection to her culture and artistry. In 2020, she turned her art into a business, Qaadax̂ Studio, to share Unangax̂ jewelry and celebrate Indigenous excellence, resilience, and cultural revitalization through her work.

To apply for this workshop, participants must complete the application form. Applications must be submitted no later than Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 12PM to be considered for the class. Applicants must agree to attend the full duration of the 4-day workshop.

All applicants will receive an email by Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 5PM notifying them whether they have been accepted to participate. Only those who receive acceptance emails may attend the workshop.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

If an accepted participant cancels their registration, they will be ineligible to participate in the next two workshops at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Multiple cancellations or no-shows may result in extended ineligibility for future workshops. This policy helps ensure committed attendance and fairness for others wishing to join future events.

  • Alaska Native peoples are given priority for workshop participation.

  • Those from the same cultural background or region as the Mentor/Master Artist may also receive priority when applicable.

  • Individuals who have not participated in a workshop in the last 3–6 months have increased eligibility for selection

Participants are expected to arrive on time. If you're 15 minutes or more late, entry may be restricted to minimize disruption, and your seat may be filled from the waitlist.

Participants must be at least 16 years old to register for this workshop.
