The sessions are scheduled as follows: October 15 (10AM–5PM), October 16 (5:30PM–8PM), October 17 (5:30PM–8PM), and October 18 (11AM–2PM).

DETAILS
Come learn how to make Yup’ik dance breastplates with Yup’ik artist Golga Oscar! This free, hands-on workshop takes place from October 15–18, meeting each day. Participants will learn how to create calfskin breastplates as part of their regalia.
This workshop is made possible through support provided by Providence Alaska Foundation and in partnership with Kuskokwim Campus Native Arts Department UAF.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Golga Oscar was born and raised in Kasigluk, Alaska. Oscar graduated from Institute of American Indian Arts where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts with an emphasis in photography.
As a fluent Yup'ik speaker, Oscar is dedicated to keeping his culture and traditions alive and relevant by teaching the next generations about their language and art. A strong cultural identity is evident in his work. Through his knowledge of traditional art forms and sewing skills, he creates cultural attire that becomes a strong visual element in his photographic imagery. His images portray portraits of Indigenous people to show the world the importance of Native heritage and the validity of their existence.
APPLICATION & ACCEPTANCE PROCESS
To apply for this workshop, participants must complete the application form. Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10AM to be considered for the class. Applicants must agree to attend the full duration of the 4-day workshop.
All applicants will receive an email by Friday, October 10, 2025, at 5PM notifying them whether they have been accepted to participate. Only those who receive acceptance emails may attend the workshop.
