ANHC is temporarily closed to the public from February 2024 – May 2024 for renovations to ANHC’s facility. We are expected to reopen to the public on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024. ANHC’s administrative offices remain open.

Ch’k’iqadi Gallery Hours
* February Hours: By appointment only. The gallery phone number is 907-330-8009. Please direct appointment inquiries to this number. Karla Booth is the Ch’k’iqadi Gallery manager and can answer any gallery specific questions.
* March – May 12, 2024 Hours: Monday-Friday from 12PM-5PM.
* Gallery customers will enter through the door that goes directly into the gallery, not the front doors.
The Alaska Native Heritage Center is temporarily closed as renovations to the facility are underway. These renovations aim to revitalize key areas of the ANHC, including the admissions area, Gathering Place, crossroads area and Hall of Cultures. Renovations also include increased capacity to manage collections with improved storage, enhanced casework, improved wayfinding, and repairs to lighting systems throughout the facility in accordance with ANHC’s green energy initiative. The ANHC anticipates reopening on Sunday, May 12, which is significant because the date will also mark the Center’s 25th anniversary.
ANHC leadership, alongside community and committee members, have been working on the next iteration of ANHC’s main facility over the past few years. After receiving the necessary tiers of funding, renovations began this month. These renovations mark the first of their kind for the ANHC and highlight the Center’s commitment to caretaking for cultural objects, sharing and practicing rich Alaska Native cultural heritage, and enhancing the visitor cultural and educational experience.
While the ANHC is closed for renovations, its dedication to cultural and educational programming remains unwavering. Its administrative offices remain open to ensure continuity in operations. While self-guided tours around the ANHC, including the village sites, are not available during the closure, facility rentals are still accessible in the Athabascan Ceremonial House and the Mabel Pike classrooms.
The Ch’k’iqadi Gallery continues to operate during the renovations, welcoming visitors Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. Those visiting the gallery are kindly requested to enter through the door directly into the gallery, bypassing the front entrance.
