Miller. Maria of the Raven moiety, Luk nax adi (Coho clan) Whale House from
Yakutat, passed away in 1995. Her robe was created in the late 1970s when
there were few Chilkat weavers. The robe has never been worn for a traditional dance or presented to the public. The robe was acquired by the 1% for Art Program and has been on display at Hanshew Middle School since January 1984. It is the only Chilkat robe in the 1% for Art collection owned by the Municipality of Anchorage. A new display case is being constructed for the robe and it will be moved to the second floor of the school following today’s dance and presentation.
