Description

A bailer is a traditional tool used by kayakers to suck water out of their boats. It is a hollow tube made from wood, designed to work like a straw, allowing the user to pull water out of the kayak. The bailer is a significant part of kayaking culture in Alaska, where it is used to prevent water from accumulating in the boat, especially during paddling activities. Made by Peter Lind Jr. of Aleut/Alutiiq decent, born in Dillingham. Imanga'iyutaq: Bailer measures approximately 3" in diameter.
